Discrete velocity and lattice Boltzmann models for binary mixtures of nonideal fluids.

In this paper, a discrete velocity model and a lattice Boltzmann model are proposed for binary mixtures of nonideal fluids based on the Enskog theory. The velocity space of the Enskog equation for each component is first discretized by applying a Gaussian quadrature, resulting in a discrete velocity model that can be solved by suitable numerical schemes. A lattice Boltzmann model is then derive...

Chemical-potential-based lattice Boltzmann method for nonideal fluids.

Chemical potential, as an important thermodynamic quantity, has been popularly used in thermodynamic modeling for complex systems, especially for those involving the phase transitions and chemical reactions. Here we present a chemical-potential-based multiphase lattice Boltzmann model, in which the nonideal force is directly evaluated by a chemical potential. The numerical computation is more e...

Lattice Boltzmann simulation of nonideal fluids.

A lattice Boltzmann scheme able to model the hydrodynamics of phase separation and two-phase flow is described. Thermodynamic consistency is ensured by introducing a non-ideal pressure tensor directly into the collision operator. We also show how an external chemical potential can be used to supplement standard boundary conditions in order to investigate the effect of wetting on phase separatio...

Lattice Boltzmann model for binary mixtures.

An a priori derivation of the lattice Boltzmann equations for binary mixtures is provided by discretizing the Boltzmann equations that govern the evolution of binary mixtures. The present model leads to a set of two-fluid hydrodynamic equations for the mixture. In existing models, employing the single-relaxation-time approximation, the viscosity and diffusion coefficients are coupled through th...

Finite-difference-based lattice Boltzmann model for dense binary mixtures.

We propose a finite-difference-based lattice Boltzmann model for dense binary mixtures based on the Enskog theory. The model is applicable to a mixture composed of two dense fluids with different shear viscosities. The macroscopic hydrodynamic and diffusion equations are derived from the model through the Chapmann-Enskog procedure. The model is also validated numerically.
